As the largest independent, educational body within the cleaning industry, the British Institute of Cleaning Science aims to ensure the standards of the cleaning industry are consistently met and raised through education and professional training.

With over 10,000 members in the UK and internationally, the BICSc use their highly regarded cleaning industry knowledge to deliver best practices for cleaning, ensuring that all organisations that hold a membership have proof of skills and adequate training to undertake work within the cleaning industry.

CHAS

The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme helps to provide health and safety standards for both suppliers and buyers in the public and private sectors. As a CHAS-approved company, here at JMS our health and safety standards have been assessed and approved as reaching the accepted standard regulated across the UK.

IPAF

The International Powered Access Federation ensures an adherence to the safe and proper use of power access equipment, such as the machinery used in order for our cleaners to safely access your building’s windows. The federation exists with the aim of making the industry safer for both suppliers and buyers, and promotes many design and safety procedures that set the standard followed by all members.

Constructionline

Constructionline comprises of the UK’s largest register of suppliers and contractors for the construction industry, including professional cleaning service providers such as JMS Cleaning. The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme:

Formed over 15 years ago, the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) was created with the aim of providing contractors and consultants with an industry standard for health and safety accreditation. Widely recognised throughout a number of associated sectors, the scheme became a web-based system in 2001, allowing ease of access to information and the application process.

The organisation works by evaluating all applicants’ health and safety policies, their general health and safety practices, and any health and safety arrangements specific to the particular working environments of the contractor.

All CHAS assessors hold National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health qualifications, and today there are 130 regularly trained evaluators working throughout the country to help your business gain CHAS accreditation. The certification itself is valid for 12 months, ensuring regular reassessment of every company’s working practices, and the CHAS website even has a section for buyers to locate and assess all accredited contractors for themselves.

British Institution of Cleaning Science (BICSc)

More specifically related to the cleaning industry, the British Institution of Cleaning Science (BICSc) is an independent body set up to provide businesses within the sector with education, training and up-to-date developments related to commercial cleaning.

Formed in 1961, the institution is now widely recognised as an industry standard accreditation, with over 5,000 members nationwide. They offer a range of accreditation services, including the professional field testing of equipment manufactured by cleaning suppliers, and their affiliates have access to a vast archive of helpful literature as well as regional meetings and conferences.

International Powered Access Federation

Particularly useful if the site in need of cleaning contains difficult-to-access areas, such as high windows or guttering, accreditation from the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) proves a company’s qualifications for using access vehicles. This can be especially important for builders’ cleans, where health and safety concerns around the use of heavy machinery are most prevalent.

Formed in 1983, IPAF provides training and accreditation related to the use of powered access across the globe, and has been involved in the design and safety development of new models. The federation awards PAL (Powered Access Licence) cards to all who pass their strict training assessments, meaning that those who hold the certification have been stringently checked.
